Garcia (25-2), who acted cool, calm, and collected through fight week, surprised many by using his right hand to control the fight from beginning to end.
It’s been a rough few years for Garcia. He lost to Gervonta Davis, had a win against Devin Haney negated after getting suspended for failing a drug test, and was dropped against Romero. Now, “KingRy” can officially be called that after winning his first world title.
Garcia started the fight by dropping Barrios (29-3-2), using his right hand to punish his opponent. He stayed in the middle of the ring through the fight, countering everything Barrios had to offer. He switched between left and right hooks, even after injuring the latter hand in the middle of the fight.
Every time Barrios tried to press forward, Garcia swung and provided damage. It was a perfect performance from Garcia, who dedicated the win to his father. His father was his trainer, while his former trainer, Joe Goossen, cornered Barrios.

Garcia, a champion at 147, earned his first official win since 2023. He called out Shakur Stevenson, a champion at 140, after the fight.
Garcia could also face Haney, the WBO welterweight champion, in a rematch, or other champions in his division. After fighting his last two opponents to a draw, Barrios earned his first loss since 2022.
Andy Hiraoka seemed to have come to the U.S. 72 hours before fight night to compete for the first time since 2024. He managed to surprise against a somewhat tentative Gary Antuanne Russell. With the WBA super lightweight title on the line, Russell retained his belt.

Hiraoka (24-0) started slow, but then picked things up in the later rounds. Russell (19-1) struggled to find momentum, which upset his team, including his brother, Gary Russell Jr. Later, Hiraoka’s momentum was lost following a very clear low blow, resulting in a point deduction. The two continued to land hard shots until the final bell.
Russell, appearing low in the Ring rankings, now hopes for unification fights.

Bektemir Melikuziev became the top contender for the WBA super middleweight title after pulverizing Sena Agbeko. Melikuziev (17-1) brutalized his opponent, who proved to have a hard chin.
The corner of Melikuziev was upset that he wasn’t taking advantage of clean shots. Agbeko was game for a war, but it wasn’t until late in the fight that his body finally gave in. After a right hook dropped him, the referee called the fight off following another onslaught. Melikuziev has now won ten straight.
